Matthew joined Brewin Dolphin in October 2004 as Head of Fund Research, responsible for long-only fund research and alternative investments. Prior to joining Brewin Dolphin, Matthew was responsible for fund selection within the strategic investment group at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Matthew holds an MA in history from Cambridge University and is a CAIA charter holder.

Before joining the financial world John served in the Royal Navy in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander, having studied at the Royal Naval Engineering College Manadon, Plymouth and at Brighton University. He has a BSc in Electronic Engineering and became a Chartered Electrical Engineer in 1982. On leaving the Service he attended Edinburgh University Business School from which he graduated MBA in 1995.In December 2007, John joined Brewin Dolphin as Head of Investment Companies Research, before which he ran his own managed funds consultancy, Newlands Fund Research. Prior to that he was Investment Companies Analyst at the London stockbroking firm of Williams de Broë Plc.
John is a member of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC)`s Statistics Committee and of the Money Marketing/IFA (UK) financial panel. He has also written a number of books and reports about the managed funds sector including ‘Put Not Your Trust in Money’, the official history of the UK investment trust industry, published in 1997 and company histories of Foreign & Colonial, Murray International and Witan Pacific Investment Trusts and of Aberdeen Asset Management.

Iain joined Brewin Dolphin in March 2003 as an equity analyst with primary responsibility for the Oil & Gas and Support Services sectors. He has since added the Chemicals sector to his coverage. Having graduated from Glasgow University with an MA in Political Economy, he entered the financial services industry, first as a US fund equity manager until 1993, when he switched to UK equity fund management.

Elaine joined the Brewin Dolphin Equity Research Team in 2000 after gaining a degree in International Business Management with Finance (BSc Hons). Elaine initially took over coverage of Utilities and has subsequently taken over coverage of Beverages and Information Technology. In 2002, Elaine set up the Quantitative research offering for the firm, which she has subsequently handed over, and in 2009 took over management of the equity research team. Elaine is a member of the Securities and Investment Institute, and holds the Securities and Investment Institute Diploma.

Guy joined Brewin Dolphin’s Fund Research Department in February 2006 as a senior fund analyst, responsible for Fixed Income and UK Equity fund selection. Prior to joining Brewin Dolphin, Guy was an investment director and portfolio manager at Hill Martin Asset Management in London. Guy is a member of the Securities and Investments Institute and is a CFA charterholder.

Victoria joined Brewin Dolphin in February 2010 as a fixed income analyst. Prior to joining Brewin Dolphin Victoria was a fixed income portfolio manager at Rothschild Private Management and before that a fixed income analyst at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Victoria holds a BA (Hons) in Economics with French from Durham University, the Investment Management Certificate and in addition is a CFA charterholder.

Nicla joined Brewin Dolphin in March 2010 as an equity analyst with primary responsibility for the Food Producers, General Industrials and Media sectors. She previously worked as a sell-side analyst at Sanford Bernstein covering the European Autos and Auto Parts sector. Prior to that Nicla worked in Investment Banking at Rabobank and UBS. Nicla holds an MBA from INSEAD and is a CFA charterholder.

Edmund joined the Brewin Dolphin graduate trainee programme in January 2008 after completing a Masters in Finance at Cass Business School. He started his career in the investment management department before joining the equity research team as Tobacco and Aerospace and Defence analyst. He has recently taken up coverage of the Travel and Leisure sector. Edmund is a member of the Securities and Investment Institute and is a CFA Level 3 candidate.

Nik joined Brewin Dolphin in August 2009 with primary responsibility for the Metals and Mining sector and initiated on the Telecoms sector in March 2010. He spent the previous five years working as a sell-side analyst at Sanford Bernstein, the last three years of which were covering the metals and mining and steel sectors. He previously worked at Goldman Sachs in the equities division. Nik holds a BSc in Management Sciences with French from the London School of Economics and is a CFA charterholder.
