Matthew joined Brewin Dolphin in October 2004 as Head of Fund Research, responsible for long-only fund research and alternative investments. Prior to joining Brewin Dolphin, Matthew was responsible for fund selection within the strategic investment group at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Matthew holds an MA in history from Cambridge University and is a CAIA charter holder.

Graduating with a PHD in economics from the London School of Economics, Mike Lenhoff started his career path in an economics forecasting consultancy business. In 1985 he joined Capel Cure Myers as a portfolio strategist. By the end of the 1990’s Mike was Head of Research at Capel Cure Sharp, later part of the Gerrard Group. He left Gerrards in 2002 to join Brewin Dolphin before the parent company Old Mutual sold Gerrard to Barclays Bank. Mike’s forecasting abilities have served him well and he makes frequent contributions to the financial press and regular guest appearances on CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg. Mike is the prime mover of the Group’s macro economic forecasting and its financial markets analysis.
Before joining the financial world John served in the Royal Navy in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander, having studied at the Royal Naval Engineering College Manadon, Plymouth and at Brighton University. He has a BSc in Electronic Engineering and became a Chartered Electrical Engineer in 1982. On leaving the Service he attended Edinburgh University Business School from which he graduated MBA in 1995.In December 2007, John joined Brewin Dolphin as Head of Investment Companies Research, before which he ran his own managed funds consultancy, Newlands Fund Research. Prior to that he was Investment Companies Analyst at the London stockbroking firm of Williams de Broë Plc.
John is a member of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC)`s Statistics Committee and of the Money Marketing/IFA (UK) financial panel. He has also written a number of books and reports about the managed funds sector including ‘Put Not Your Trust in Money’, the official history of the UK investment trust industry, published in 1997 and company histories of Foreign & Colonial, Murray International and Witan Pacific Investment Trusts and of Aberdeen Asset Management.

Iain joined Brewin Dolphin in March 2003 as an equity analyst with primary responsibility for the Oil & Gas and Support Services sectors. He has since added the Chemicals sector to his coverage. Having graduated from Glasgow University with an MA in Political Economy, he entered the financial services industry, first as a US fund equity manager until 1993, when he switched to UK equity fund management.

Elaine joined the Brewin Dolphin Equity Research Team in 2000 after gaining a degree in International Business Management with Finance (BSc Hons). Elaine initially took over coverage of Utilities and has subsequently taken over coverage of Beverages and Information Technology. In 2002, Elaine set up the Quantitative research offering for the firm, which she has subsequently handed over, and in 2009 took over management of the equity research team. Elaine is a member of the Securities and Investment Institute, and holds the Securities and Investment Institute Diploma.
